One of the most exciting motorsport races to be witnessed is the motorcycle hillclimb. So, you have no clue what hillclimbing is? Let’s see if I can explain. Ever since man developed the two-wheeled vehicle called the motorcycle, a few tough individuals have tried to prove that they could ride it off-road up a mountain or steep hillside. Once that was achieved, riders then had to prove that they could do it faster than any one else thus originated the sport of hillclimbing. Throughout the years, motorcycles have evolved, and with the introduction of new technology, so has hillclimbing.
Today’s hillclimbing events involve the use of nitro-methane burning motorcycles as opposed to the gasoline-powered predecessors. There are a few other basic changes from the stock motorcycle that include:
A long swingarm and chain-guide, A stronger rear shock, Wristband kill-switch
Riders position themselves at the bottom of a 500+ foot hill that goes vertical near the top one that skiers would call slalom hill. They then open the engine up and ride uphill as fast as possible. Easy, right? To make it a bit more complicated; there’s a few dips and mounds along the way to ride over, while trying not to flip your bike and damage your body. And if that’s not enough, there’s anywhere from ten to fifty bikes revving up downhill and waiting for their turn to beat your best time. Don’t get nervous though...the only thing you have to worry about is doing it again and beating their time! For those that attended the hillclimb last year, this year promises to be more extreme! said Michael Farabaugh, director for ScooterMania Productions. For this year’s event, we’ve developed more intense jumps and steeper climbs for the riders to maneuver. Last year was wild, this year is guaranteed to be even wilder!
Come early to Brown County and enjoy the beautiful foilage. No coolers are allowed in the hillclimb area. Ski World will be providing food and beverages for sale at the event. Camping is available at Ski World with R.V. electric and water hookups.
