Kentucky Mountain
Bike Association
Mission: Promote socially and environmentally responsible mountain biking, and develop community awareness by educating and working towards the goals of common land access and natural resource protection for all trail users.
The Kentucky Mountain Bike Association is a statewide group of mountain bike enthusiasts. As the first mountain bike club in Kentucky, KyMBA has been active in mountain biking issues, advocacy, and competition since 1985. What began as a small group of friends who enjoyed riding in Louisville's Cherokee Park has grown into a statewide organization of off-road cyclists representing several chapters. KYMBA chapters throughout the state offer group rides ranging from short spins to epic countryside journeys. Together we explore some of the most scenic areas in the region.
As mountain biking gains popularity, not only among serious cyclists
but all kinds of people, it is important that everyone
becomes aware of the sensitive issues we face.
The move to off-road cycling has led to increased trail use and, as a result,
conflicts with other trail users. KYMBA works in conjunction with park and forest
managers at the city, state and federal levels to keep trails open, maintain
and create new trails, and foster good relations among all user groups.
More than just a cycling club, KYMBA also organizes trail and environmental cleanups, trail maintenance and construction, camp-outs, social events, and safety and educational workshops.
By joining KYMBA, you can support the conservation of our sport and make a difference in the future of mountain biking. KYMBA's is associated with the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA). IMBA is a non-profit, publicly supported organization dedicated to promoting mountain bicycling opportunities which are environmentally and socially responsible.
We have many projects planned for 2001. First and foremost, we will be continuing our work with the Olmsted Parks Conservancy and Metro Parks in Cherokee Park by maintaining and redesigning sections of trail that we adopted last year. Also, we plan to host several races in the Kentucky Points Series, Trails for Kids, and Mtb 101 classes. With your help and support, we can make KyMBA a bigger and better club in the year 2001!
